Stopped in my Tracks...

...by my stupid set of interchangable needles. Looks like we will be shelling out for some Addi Clicks at some point in the very near future, as the other-set-who-shall-not-be-named just completely crapped out on me. Which I'm a little upset by, because I've had them for a year.

I cast on for a project last night, and after painstakingly putting a few hundred stitches on the needles, the cable pulled out of the join. ARGH. At least it was right after the cast on, and not, say, 40,000 stitches into the project.

Anyway, I got the yarn in for one of the commissioned projects the other day. Here's the Berroco Campus in College Try:

The second picture shows the colors a little better, but it's still a little more orangey/browny than purpley than what's depicted. Anyway, lovely yarn. It's wool, alpaca and acrylic, and it's quite soft. I can't wait to knit with it, but I don't have any needles large enough to get gauge on this project.

I also ordered the yarn for my second commissioned project. I got some Rowan Lima, which is an EXTREMELY sexy alpaca, merino and nylon mix. The strands of the yarn are knitted together in an i-cord shape, so it is really light and lofty. Honestly, it has the weight of a DK yarn, and the width of a worsted. I'm looking forward to knitting with it.

So that's about it. Not much else to say, other than I'm a little apprehensive about shelling out $170 for knitting needles, even though I know I'll use the heck out of them.

  1. I've bought the Addi click set soon after it came out. I don't use them much, for once, they tips are blunt, and there were only three cables in the set, one of which is so short it's useless. Do you know if there are more cables to buy extra in different length?
The yarn almost looks like handspun!

  2. I haven't invested any money into any of the interchangeable needles mainly because I have a nearly full set of Addi's...bought them a few at a time as I needed them. They seemed expensive then but were so much cheaper than they are now. My biggest complaint is that the tips are so blunt. Best of luck with your needle dilemma and your commissions!

    That yarn is gorgeous!

  5. I have a set of addi clicks and I love them. Though honestly they were a present so I didn't have the internal money debate....

  6. Hmmm I still have no interchangable needles ( yes, that sounds like a lie - but it is true lol) and it feels ok when I read around about everybody having trouble with them.
Love the color in your yarn! Hm sexy alpaca, I think I need to bring myself to a higher knit level, I have never thought of yarn as sexy :-)Enjoy your weeken Virginia!

  8. Oh man, sorry to hear about your broken needles! I probably would've been throwing yarn around the room and saying impolite things. You sound much calmer about it :)

  9. On the bright side, the broken needles left a nice opening for a Christmas gift. Things could be worse!
