A sock for Bruce.

I don't have anything brilliant to say about this sock. I knitted it. Knitted the toe twice. Still not really thrilled about having to knit ANOTHER sock after I've finished the first one.

Pattern: So Simple Silk Garden
Yarn: Noro Silk Garden Sock
Needle: US 2 (2.75mm)

Here it is:

Bruce may still be wearing this sock.

I'm not really thrillled with the toe. There's a squareiness that I'm not loving.

So far conclusions on sock knitting: I love knitting. Knitting socks involves knitting. Therefore I enjoy knitting socks. However, thus far not loving sock knitting more than any other kind of knitting, such as sweater knitting. And honestly, I really really love lace knitting. I am going to tackle a complicated lace project (or two. Or three) soon. WOO!

  1. Yes. I am still feeling a bit overwhelmed by life right now. Which is fine. Hence the short post.

  2. Thank you Virginia! I will chop the wood, I'm used to it :-) You can knit :-)
I think the sock is lovely! Great colors in the yarn you have chosen, lucky Bruce. If he ever get the second :-)
I don't like those toes, I do another one when the pattern calls for this one. Never, never got toe like that likable :-)

  3. I think the Cookie A books have sections about modify the type of toe, if you're really unhappy with the toe that came with the pattern. The toe in the photo looks pretty square and un-toe-like.

  4. Yes the toe is squarish--but socks, which get tucked into shoes, can be quite functional when imperfect--and they still feel good!

Nancy Bush in her book Knitting Vintage Socks (a great sock book) has directions for lots of different styles of toes.. try one, or another, or all of them till you find the sock toe you like best.

  5. I think it's a very pretty sock. I find that toes round out with wearing, so don't worry about it too much.

  7. I think the toes have a nice, cubist motif that you aren't properly appreciating. Besides, it's not like I can wear lace on my feet!

    Love, love, love my sock!

  8. I can't remember, is this a toe-up sock? Because there's a way to make that toe more rounded.
